Houston's first Del Taco opens March 28

Del Taco, the California-born chain of quick-serve Mexican standards, will open its first Houston store tomorrow, March 28, at 8910 Westheimer. It will be the first of more than 40 Del Tacos planned for the Houston market. It is owned and operated by franchisee RPM Hospitality.

Del Taco, which offers burgers and fries in addition to burritos, tacos and quesadillas, already has made Texas inroads. Over the past year and a half, it opened seven locations in the Dallas/Ft. Worth market.

Not familiar with the No. 2 Mexican fast food chain in the country? Western states residents know Del Taco for its lengthy and inexpensive menu of made-to-order Mexican fare that also includes breakfast (most Del Tacos are open 24 hours with a drive-through). Beans are lard free; pico de gallo is handmade; cheese is freshly grated on site from 40 pound blocks; and marinated chicken is grilled throughout the day.

Del Taco has more than 530 restaurants in 17 states.

Some may recall that Del Taco had a few stores in Houston in the 1980s.
