Del Taco rolls out lower-fat turkey tacos

Del Taco will launch turkey tacos on Jan. 2. According to a company news release, the introduction will mark the first time a Mexican QSR has offered ground turkey as a protein option.

Del Taco's turkey tacos feature seasoned ground turkey and have 33 percent less fat than their beef taco counterparts. Each turkey taco has 150 calories.

Del Taco will also offer a Turkey CrunchTada Tostada, an extension of the brand's CrunchTada product line.

Priced at $1.29, the new turkey tacos are served in a crunchy corn or soft flour tortilla and include grated cheddar cheese, lettuce and pico de gallo.

The Turkey Taco Meal, priced at $5, include two tacos, pico de gallo salsa, chips and a drink. When paired with a diet drink, the meal totals 430 calories, according to the release.

"Turkey tacos reinforce our guest promise to serve quality, made-to-order menu items created with freshly prepared ingredients at an unbelievable price," John Cappasola, Del Taco EVP and chief brand officer, said in the release. "We're proud to accommodate the growing number of guests who prefer turkey as a protein option but still want great flavor."
